Furniture Shots

These Shots were all taken at Viewpoint Studios. This is where I did my last internship. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. I got to work with some great photographers who would take the time to share their experience. I'm proud that I am a graduate of RCC's Photography program. I think it is the best place to learn photography.

Home Page

Nikon D200 f/32 @ 1/60

I had an assignment to design a web site for myself in my multimedia class.I shot this image to use as my photo for my home page. I had to combine a lot of techniques to produce this image. I did a still life shot of the film canister and then put the other images on there in photoshop.

Gotta Wear Shades

Nikon D200 f/11 @ 1/60

This image was shot for my commercial class. I wanted a simple shot with detail in the glasses. I also wanted the shadow to be an important element to the image. The glasses are sitting on packed sand. It was difficult to get the sand that smooth, but I think it helped to get a sharp shadow. I used a strobe to back light it and placed it to get the shape and size of the shadow that I wanted. I used a card placed on the right front side to get detail to show there.

Personality Portrait

Nikon D200, f/16 @ 1/60

This image was shot for a promotional assignment for my commercial photography class. My Father is an avid golfer, and has a good sense of humor. I wanted this image to show this side of him. It was very challenging to set this shot up. I used a large tray with a hole cut in the bottom. I placed it on top of his shoulders, and he held it up in place while I exposed the image. To light the image I used a strobe on the side and added fill with a white card on the opposite side around to the front of his face.

Color on Black and White

Darkroom Manipulated

This photograph started out as a black and white photograph of a white flower. I used the black and white neg and exposed it on to color paper. I then had to manipulate the color filtration to achieve the color seen here.

Character Study Portrait

Nikon D-200, 1/125 @ f/8 Studio Flash

This is a photograph of my Father I took in my studio at home. I wanted it to be edgy with some contrast. The props were used to show something about him. One of his favorite things to do is to play tennis.

Us and Them

Nikon D-200, 1/125 @ f/8, strobe and handheld flash

This photograph was shot for an assignment to illustrate the book cover of "Us and Them."
The book is about intolerance in America. I used a large soft box as the backdrop and a 285 Vivatar flash as my main light.

Portfolio 1

Nikon D-200, 1/125 @ f/16, broncolor strobe

This photograph was made for a promotional assignment in my commercial class. I shot this in the studio. I made a puddle of water by using black plastic inside of a frammed edge and about a gallon of water. I had rods comming out of the back of the shoes so they could be moved from outside the frame. I lit it with one broncolor strobe and fill cards. I had an assistant slam the shoes down in the water while I tried to time the shot. I think this is a portfolio shot because it draws the viewer in to see what is going on.

Concentration Assignment

Sinar 4x5 view camera, 1/60 @ f/11,
Ektachrome 100 Transparency film

This post is an assignment shot for my commercial photo class. The assignment was to choose a baked goods product and create a table top illustration that is appetizing and has a clear and pleasing sense of time and place. The subject was a "no brainer," I love these cinamon swirl muffins. They have a lot of good texture. I set this up at home. I searched for a good plate and table matt to place my subject. I wanted it to have a feel of home and morning breakfast. I baked the muffins and then arranged them this way. I added the knife and carefully arranged the crumbs. I set up and ajusted the Sinar 4x5 view camera to this point of view. I used a broncolor strobeto side light the subject. I used a small fill card on the opposite side to carefully fill in the shadow detail I wanted. I used angular movements to set the point of focus to the front. After the slide film was developed it was scanned into photoshop to make it the correct size for the assignment.

Stars and Stripes

Nikon D-200, 1/250 @ f/5.3

I'm posting this photograph with September 11 just around the corner. I was shooting the Fourth of July celebration in downtown Greensboro, NC. I liked the way the sun light was hitting the flag, and the way the breeze was moving the flag. It was a perfect ending to a good day.

Kerners Folly

This photograph was taken for an assignment I had in Large Format class. Kerners Folly is located in Kernersville, NC. This historic house is very unigue in it's design and construction. To shoot this I used a Sinar 4 x 5 view camera with a wide angle lens, and used Kodak Ectachrome 100 sheet film. To get the digital image the film was scanned in with an epson scanner.
